Daycare update

Well, they did it. They kicked her out. The Friday before Christmas I got a call...

SD= stupid daycare
NA= me

SD: Uh, hello Mrs. A. IA bit another child today and we're going to have to send her home. And also, we've decided that today is her last day.

NA: (inside voice) WHAT THE FUCK!

I just couldn't believe what I was hearing. First of all, what an incredible fail on their part. In a room with 5 children, they couldn't handle a biter. Weak. But also, ONE WEEK before the holidays?!? Not only did I have gifts to buy, and wrap, but a family to pack and neighborhood pals coming over on Monday. For about 30 mins my head felt like it might explode. After that I calmed down and realized it would all be for the best. So now I am frantically trying to find a nanny. We've decided to go the nanny route to give IA some more individual attention and lessen the adjustment from hoping from one daycare to another. We have a couple of solid candidates, so I'm hopeful. Onward and upward, right?

My baby

Tonight at dinner we were talking about my Mom. It's been a rough holiday without her here, but while sad, it was really nice to talk about her...especially to hear my Dad speak so lovingly (which through his own brand of coping hasn't always been so readily available). The kids were playing in the other room and IA came in to check out what was happening with the old folks. I was teary eyed and she immediately came over to me and said in her soft little voice "Mommy, are your eyes ok?". Oh my sweet, sweet girl. She proceeded to climb in my lap and rest her head on my shoulder. Little did she know, but that was exactly what I needed.

The weather outside is definitely frightful

The East Coast is in the midst of getting hit with a Nor'easter that is expected to dump up to 20 inches of snow. I'd say were currently at 8. Our travel plans are now delayed and to pass the time we hooked up my niece's new Wii. WA is a master at boxing (which requires pure bursts of movement), I kicked butt in bowling (embarrassing but true) and my brother cleaned house in "Are You Smarter than a 5th grader" (the dude is an idiot savant). It's great fun and I literally almost peed my pants watching my brother kayak (hey, I've had two kids). All in all not a bad way to spend a snowed in day.

Thank you Santa!

And here we are, the first post from my brand new iPad! I'm in love and hopeful my new boyfriend will help me be a better blogger. Swoon....:)

2 years ago

I last heard my Mom's voice. I miss it. It's so bizarre to think she's been gone 2 years, but that's the reality. I remain grateful for all the time we had together (especially the last 7 bonus years) and that she met my daughter. Time does heal, but there are losses that will always remain. Yeah, it blows.

Holiday trimmings

The tree is up. The outisde lights are hung. Stockings secured on the mantel. Xmas 2010 is on.

Top that kid!

"Mommy you're a turtle!", "You're an elephant" I responded. "You're a cow", "You're an platypus"....you get the idea. This is one of WA's current favorite car games. The other day, as we were returning from the local childrens museum, he and I engaged in this back and forth. After moving through 10 animals, WA said "Mommy, you're a pig" (at which my husband snickered. check minus.). I turned around and said "Oh yeah? Well you're a chinchilla!". He stopped, looked puzzled and said "hmmph". That's right, victory  was mine!:)
