Holy cow.
We are just coming out of a very interesting and very challenging experience with WA. He was diagnosed, this spring, with anxiety disorder/ADHD. Since these issues were causing interruptions in his life (like the fact that he no longer had any interest in hockey and was having focus issues at school), we started down the medication road. So far it's been a bumpy one. We are on medication number 2. The first helped his anxiety, but not his attention. The second helped the attention, but had an awful side effect. About 3 weeks in to him taking this second med, he start having outburst of anger. I'm not talking about yelling or worse than normal tantrums, I'm talking anger that required restraint. Fists flying, toy throwing, walls bedammed anger. At the begining I didn't really put two and two together and thought he was either more upset than normal or just going through a bad phase. Our doctor never mentioned anger as a side effect and it also wasn't very prevailent in the information I read, so it didn't really click. It wasn't until we had our doctor check-in last week that she confirmed severe anger is a side effect. THANK GOD. I was beginning to wonder how I was going to make it through. This level of fury was totally out of my league. So we weened him off the meds and already he is doing much, much better. I've never seen anything like it and hope this road smooths out for him before he starts first grade in August.
