Hello, hello

Hello my neglected blog. It's been a long time. I've actually missed you; but what can I say, the past few months have been tough, but things are on the up and up. And that's what counts, right? Let me give a few updates just so I'm feeling up to speed.

1. My knees are STILL sick. Yes, we're going on 4 months with no relief. It's beyond frustrating and my waistline is suffering mightily. I got an MRI about 3 weeks ago and they determined that I had Hoffa's pad infringement. Fancy huh? The good news is that nothing was torn, no surgery required. The bad news is that it's an injury that takes a long time to heal (so I'm finding out). It happens when the pad of tissue under your knee gets pinched and enflames. Once enflamed, it has the tendency to get pinched more causing more pain and more swelling/injury. So it's kind of a tough cycle to break. I am taping my knee daily and icing it. So far with limited results. No running in sight and I'm discouraged, but there's nothing I can do but keep icing, taping and resting. Someone go for a run for me, will ya?

2. So speaking of getting insanely fat. I am about to turn 40. I have just over a month left in this decade and in general I'm feeling ok about it. I can look past the wrinkles, shifting body weight and urge to nap in the afternoon and say that 40 doesn't feel too bad. So my hubby asked me what I wanted to do for this landmark event and I had an immediate answer. A S'mores party. Yup, a S'mores party. In my backyard with my friends and kids everywhere. It may not be everyone's idea of 40, but it sure sounds fun to me!

4. At the end of March my hubby and I flew back to CT for my Dad's 70th birthday party. It was quite fun and was great to see my family. My aunt did a fantastic job organizing the whole thing and everyone had a good time (that could also have to do with the amount of booze that was flowing...). My Dad lapped up the attention (as is his nature) and was genuinely appreciative. It's weird watching my Dad turn 70 with a woman who is not my mother and a life that isn't necessarily inclusive of my brother and I. I'm happy for him, but it also makes me a little sad.

5. Also in March we had an extra fun trip up to Chicago to visit my cousin AFL and her family. The drive took us 8 hours or so (with stops) and the kids did as well as can be expected. I honestly do not know what people did before DVD players and iPads! AFL's house is charming and was big enough to fit 9 people comfortably. The kids, ages 6mos, 2, 3, 4 and 5, were perfectly spaced and had a blast. IA was  particularly fond of their electronic keyboard and performed many a concert. The highlight of the trip was visit to Legoland. Mecca for WA really. It was not what I expected (felt more like a children's museum heavy on the legos than a themepark), but was really cool and very managable. In the picture above WA is upset because we could not find the legos he got at Legoland. Turns out FL (far right) had swiped them and hidden them under his bed. My cousin found them after we left and gladly mailed them to a much happier WA. It was an awesome time and it's always great to see my cuz.
